 if you've done any amount of research at all into one way or to get a free instant credit report, then you've probably run up against the realization that there are probably about five or six dozen websites all offering what they say is a free credit report.

I found the same thing when I went looking for my own report. But now here's the problem...

It's easy enough to find someone willing to give you a free credit report. But what most places don't tell you is that the report may not be all that accurate. And what's worse, is that the so-called credit score that they deliver to you may not be the actual score that lenders use when they're deciding whether or not to loan you money.

So what good does this kind of credit report do you? Not much.

The only other thing I should mention about free instant credit reports is that most of the sites that you'll find tie the report into some sort of credit monitoring service.

These can be a very useful tool for anyone who needs to monitor their credit or their score closely -- in reality that should probably include all of us. But I know that many people just check their scores and their reports once or twice a year, so I'm not going to harp on you to keep a closer eye on it.

However, if you are in the middle of making a major purchase -- perhaps you were trying to buy a new car, or trying to get a mortgage for a new house -- this kind of service can actually be invaluable to you.

As you know, during this. It's vital that you keep a very, very close eye on what's going on with your credit. You don't want any last-minute surprises when you're about to sign the final papers for your loan.

It's just my opinion, and you can of course do what you want, but it is something to keep in mind. If you feel like you don't need the service, they just go ahead and cancel it.
